Hello,
This is Sharon Davis and Larry Watts, coordinators and hosts of the Annual Queen City Juneteenth Parade and Cultural Celebration.
The theme of the parade is: Black Excellence, “Helping You See It, So You Can Become It.
The originator of the Queen City Juneteenth Parade and Cultural Celebration concept, Sharon Davis, was inspired by the first Black Panther movie. She recalls being so encouraged and moved by the scene when they were standing on the mountain. The array of black people standing in honor, dignity, beauty and strength was so touching to her. Sharon’s vision for the Juneteenth parade is to be able to have a platform to show our young people that they can aspire to dream big and accomplish their goals in life.
We would like to have a variety of black professions from all types of industries represented. This includes small business owners, trade partners, medical professionals, artists, first responders, scientists, educators, representatives from the financial and tech sectors, agriculture industry, politicians, entertainers, sports, entrepreneurs, community groups (ex. fraternities, sororities, college prep programs, etc.) drumlines, bands and so much more.
And to extend knowledge of our deep cultured roots, we also invite community stakeholders and liaisons from all races and ethnicities to join in and participate on this day of celebration as well.
